Abstract
Since the first reported cases of HIV infection in 1985, the number of reported HIV infection cases has increased to 1,152. In 2015, HIV infection in males was 1,080 cases, which was 15 times higher than that of females, with 72 cases. The age group, 20-49, accounted for 76.2% of reported HIV infection cases. At the end of 2015, the number of people living with HIV was 10,502 cases.
The Korean Government established comprehensive healthcare mechanisms, including free and anonymous HIV check-up centers, as well as, provided education and anti-retroviral therapy at no cost to people living with HIV/AIDS. In 2016, the UN General Assembly advocated for political declaration to fast-track efforts in ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
